A seaside road trip in Pembrokeshire

Take note from the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and stick to the sea-nic route. Strap your board to the roof rack and stick your wetsuit in a bag, for the beach is calling! Start in Saundersfoot or Tenby where the towns are geared up for tourists; expect plenty of eateries and a bustling atmosphere no matter what time of year you visit.

Keep the sea on your left and work your way around the coast hitting up Barafundle Bay and Broadhaven South Beach before venturing onto Freshwater West Beach where Hollywood films have been made. Cross the Cleddau estuary and keep west to test out the waves at Dale Beach before going wild swimming at St Brides Haven Beach.

Make your way through the Havens beaches (Little Haven, Broad Haven and Nolton Haven) to reach the epic 2 miles of shore at Newgale Beach where you’ll join a crowd of watersports enthusiasts, before following a few of them onto Whitesands Beach no doubt.

Follow the route north to try coasteering at Abereiddy’s Blue Lagoon and then go fly a kite by the water at Newport Sands - if you can resist two hidden bays at Cwm Yr Egwlys and Pwllgwaellod that is. Ceibwr Bay marks the last beach spot before you hit Poppit Sands where you soon cross the border into Ceredigion.

A walkers road trip in Pembrokeshire

Its a no-brainer to follow the Coast Path once again. Make sure to pack your most comfortable walking boots, plenty of snacks and a mixture of wet weather gear with suncream and a sunhat thrown in for good measure. You might well see four seasons in one day!

For this one, we’d start in the north where the landscape is particularly hilly - it’ll make that pint at the end even more rewarding. Starting in St Dogmaels, you’ll follow a route along the headland of Ceibwr to see the Witches Cauldron before strolling through the picturesque port town of Fishguard where Richard Burton and Gregory Peck have spent time.

Curl around the headland of Strumble Head snapping a selfie in front of the lighthouse and continue through the old quarrying villages to reach the UK’s smallest city, St Davids where you can follow in the footsteps of the Patron Saint of Wales.

Pass by the watersports wonders of Pembrokeshire all along St Brides Bay to reach the industrial sights of Milford Haven and Pembroke Dock before reaching several iconic sights in landmarks succession; the Green Bridge of Wales, St Govans Chapel and Church Doors Cove. Enjoy scenes over Caldey as you pass through Tenby to close your hike at Amroth.

This is the kind of trip to split into multiple visits unless you’re practically an athlete as the elevation over this course is on par with Everest - so pretty intense!

A foodie road trip in Pembrokeshire

No matter where you start this foodie road trip in Pembrokeshire, you’ll be hopping from one mouthwatering delight to another. Grab a lobster burger from Cafe Mor, now housed at The Old Point House, and delve into handmade gelato at Pointz Castle Ice Cream. Sample Son of a Beach from Tenby Brewing Co or try out Cinnamon Grove Gin in your next G&T.

For Welsh cakes, seek out MamGu Welshcakes in St Davids or Saundersfoot. For seafood, pick up fresh produce at Simply Seafood at Tenby Harbour or head to Lobster & Mor in Little Haven. Crwst in Cardigan is worth the trip across the border for sweet treats and delish dishes. To pick up further produce, try The Gourmet Pig in Fishguard, Four Seasons Farm Shop near Tenby and Wisebuys in Narberth or Pembroke.

Runwayskiln in Marloes will have your tastebuds tingling with a vibrant menu, as will Paternoster Farm near Angle and Plum Vanilla in Narberth. One of the best pizza places in Pembrokeshire is Top Joes, located in Tenby and Narberth, whilst Lokky’s near Saundersfoot is where to go for Pan Asian cuisine.
